Karate Experience

Started training karate at Kovsie Karate in 2000 at the age of 4 years. Obtained Graded 1st dan (Shodan)

Started teaching at Kovsie Karate in 2012.

Athlete Profile: SAJKA national junior champion in both kata and kumite from 2002 to 2011. Represented the SAJKA national junior team to the Gichin Funakoshi Cup (JKA World Champs) in Thailand in 2011 and won a bronze medal in the kata division.

Won several gold medals in both kata and kumite at the Karate South Africa national junior championships between 2006 and 2011. Represented the national Protea junior karate team from 2008 to 2011 and won several international WKF medals like:
  • Bronze in kata at Commonwealth Karate Championships, Scotland
  • Gold in kata, gold in kumite and silver in team kumite at Africa Zone 6 Karate championships, Zimbabwe
  • Gold in kata and gold in kumite at Africa Zone 6 Karate Championships, South Africa
  • Gold in kata, gold in kumite and gold in team kumite at Commonwealth Karate Championships, South Africa
After a 6 year break from karate placed 5th in the senior male open kata division at the SAJKA National karate championships in 2019 and won gold in senior male team kumite.
